The 52nd annual RBC Heritage golf tournament was to be held this past March just like it has for over 50 years. Hilton Head’s very own Harbour Town Golf Links hosts the event and each time golf fans, vacationers, locals, and partygoers alike, come out to attend one of the most popular stops on the PGA Tour.
Except this year the Corona Virus would prove a hazard too big to play out of. What was supposed to be another installment of a long tradition of great golf and good times was not to be.
However, Hilton Head Islanders are strong. We heeded our government and leaders’ direction and moved swiftly to undertake all social-distancing protocols. That action has helped bring back the PGA event just in an all-be-it different form. And while we will greatly miss being able to join with thousands of our friends and golf lovers in person to cheer on some of the biggest names on tour, we celebrate that this is yet another sign that Hilton Head Island is returning to its amazing self.
So this June 18 – 21 don your plaid at home, or the beach, or wherever you are staying six feet safely away from someone and give Hilton Head Island and your favorite golfer a nice golf clap– or in this case a big loud shout out because this is the one time you won’t distract anybody in their backswing while watching all the birdie-making action.
